· Keep the computer in a common area, where you can watch and monitor its use.

· Share an e-mail account with your child so you can monitor messages.

· Bookmark kids' favorite sites for easy access.

· Spend time online together to teach your kids appropriate online behavior.

· Forbid your child from entering private chat rooms; block them with safety features provided  by your Internet service provider or with special filtering software.

· Find out what online protection is offered by your child's school, after-school center, friends' homes, or any place where children could use a computer without your supervision.

· Apply parental controls provided by Windows or Mac computer systems.

· Discuss Internet safety with your children so they are aware of how important it is to protect themselves on the internet.

· Talk to children about not responding to offensive or dangerous e-mail, chat, or other communications. · Report any such communication to local law enforcement and do not delete the offensive or dangerous e-mail.

· Talk to children about keeping themselves safe when using social networking sites.
